Monty McCutchen’s wild ride from small-town Texas to the top of the reffing world – Joseph Casciaro, The Score

Joseph Casciaro (The Score 3/20) spoke w/ Monty and chronicled his strange path to becoming the VP of officiating, which includes evaluating and developing current officials, as well as finding and training the next wave.  Monty details how his father put up a horse they had as collateral for a $600 loan for Monty to travel from his native Texas to LA in order to participate in Hugh Hollins’ camp.  He highlights how Hollins and Joey Crawford were critical in his development into an NBA official.  Casciaro shares quotes praising Monty from Crawford, ATL’s Vince Carter and IND HC Nate McMillan and notes Crawford said it was smart of Adam to hire Monty for the VP post, especially b/c he was still an official in his prime.
