Pool Report on Charlotte’s Successful Challenge With 16.3 Seconds Remaining in Overtime of Tonight’s Charlotte at Philadelphia Game

The Pool Report interview was conducted by Noah Levick (NBC Sports Philadelphia) with Crew Chief Courtney Kirkland following tonight’s Hornets at 76ers game.

QUESTION: So, the successful challenge by Charlotte in overtime with 16.3 seconds left that overturned the foul on LaMelo Ball, why was that call overturned and what evidence was found to deem that a call that should be changed?

KIRKLAND: After looking at the replay review, it was clear and conclusive that LaMelo Ball deflected the ball with his left hand prior to there being any contact.  Because it was clear and conclusive, we were able to overturn the call.

QUESTION: Following that initial strip of the ball, why was the contact made by Ball subsequently not deemed worthy of a foul?

KIRKLAND: It wasn’t a foul because [LaMelo Ball] legally deflected the ball from the offensive player.
