The Pool Report interview was conducted by Lauren Williams (Atlanta Journal-Constitution) with Crew Chief David Guthrie following tonight’s Nets at Hawks game.
QUESTION: I wanted to know what you guys saw on the Nic Claxton play that led to it being a Flagrant 2?
GUTHRIE: “There was unnecessary and excessive contact by Claxton. There is wind-up, hard impact and follow through to a vulnerable air-born player and also a potential for injury. This also led to an altercation as well, so per rule, this meets the criteria for a Flagrant 2 and ejection.”
QUESTION: What did you see in terms of how much it led to the altercation and sort of the tensions rising up?
GUTHRIE: “Every situation is different, so you know, I don’t really have any additional information on that.”
QUESTION: And, how long does it typically take after situations like that for the tensions to sort of diffuse?
GUTHRIE: “Again, every situation is different, each game, each night, so I don’t really have a direct answer to that, but just each night is a different situation.”
QUESTION: And in the case of Cam Thomas and the hard foul on DeAndre Hunter that then led to an altercation between the center [Onyeka Okongwu] and Cam Thomas, what did you see that resulted in those double technicals on them?
GUTHRIE: “Both players came together and had unsportsmanlike actions which led to the double technical fouls.”
