Pool Reporter Transcript

Crew Chief Ed Malloy

Postgame – Philadelphia 76ers at Brooklyn Nets

NBA Crew Chief Ed Malloy met with pool reporter Brian Mahoney of The Associated Press after the game between the 76ers and Nets. Here is a transcript of that interview.

What was the determination on why Joel Embiid’s foul was ruled a Flagrant 1?

“Embiid’s foul was ruled a Flagrant 1 because there was a wind up with unnecessary contact that we didn’t deem to be excessive.”

Both [Jared] Dudley and Jimmy Butler were ejected on one technical foul.  What did each player do to be ejected?

“Dudley and Butler were ejected for their role as escalators, from taking a situation that was under control and escalating it to a heightened altercation.”

And both Ben Simmons and D’Angelo Russell were down there involved, did you look at either one of those players and, if you did, why did you determine that there was no penalty for those players?

“Yes, we looked at those players and we determined that both those players were acting as peace makers and did not escalate the situation.”
