Postgame – Oklahoma City at Portland Trail Blazers
NBA Crew Chief Ed Malloy met with pool reporter Kevin Pelton of espn.com after the game between the Thunder and Trail Blazers tonight. Here is a transcript of that interview.
Why was a flagrant one assessed to Russell Westbrook at the 3:15 mark of the second quarter?
“The flagrant foul penalty one was assessed because Westbrook ran up the court and made unnecessary contact with Nurkic.”
Why was a technical foul assessed to Jusuf Nurkic at the 3:15 mark of the second quarter?
“During replay, we were able to go back and observe that Nurkic tripped Westbrook, which is an unsportsmanlike act. Therefore, a technical foul was assessed.”
Why was Paul George’s elbow to Jusuf Nurkic’s face with 15.1 seconds left in regulation not reviewed for a hostile act?
“Because there wasn’t a foul called on the play. There wasn’t a trigger to go to replay.”
Why were technical fouls assessed on Jusuf Nurkic and Paul George with 4.4 seconds left in regulation?
“Because during the dead ball there was physical contact made by both players against each other, which is an unsportsmanlike act. Therefore, double technical fouls.”
