POOL REPORT ON CLARIFICATION OF THE FLAGRANT FOUL CALLED ON MYLES TURNER DURING THE FIRST QUARTER OF TONIGHT’S NETS VS. PACERS GAME

POOL REPORT ON CLARIFICATION OF THE FLAGRANT FOUL CALLED ON MYLES TURNER DURING THE FIRST QUARTER OF TONIGHT’S NETS VS. PACERS GAME.

INTERVIEW CONDUCTED BY J. MICHAEL FALGOUST (INDIANAPOLIS STAR) WITH CREW CHIEF TYLER FORD, FOLLOWING TONIGHT’S BROOKLYN NETS AT INDIANA PACERS GAME.

 March 17, 2021

QUESTION: WHY WAS THE FOUL CALLED ON MYLES TURNER AT 7:59 IN THE FIRST QUARTER DEEMED A FLAGRANT 1? WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CONTACT THAT’S EXPECTED VERSUS EXCESSIVE CONTACT?

FORD: “We judge the play on its own merit.  Myles Turner made unnecessary contact above the shoulders of the on-ball defender with his elbow.”

QUESTION: “IS IT BASED ON THE WAY THE ELBOW COMES AWAY FROM THE BODY?”

FORD: “It’s the way the elbow makes contact above the shoulders.”
